My review on this great value 1080p LCD Monitor that i've owned for a bit of time. Despite some hardships in the past, the latest firmware revision (1.03) fixes the major problems in the set

I ditched mine as well back in February of 2009. I replaced it with a Pioneer Kuro 5020, and never looked back. With that said, I got two years of quality use out if the Westy and I miss it in some small way because of how beautiful PC images looked on it.
@CorruptionDee
That’s actually interesting to know hah.
Ditched this tv a year ago tho for the samsung A750
Westinghouse sucks man i hate my 26inchWestinghouse
I have the TX-42F430S with the PS3 connected with HDMI at 1080p. The MOVIE mode setting on the tv has a default picture setting of BRIGHTNESS 42, CONTRAST 58, SATURATION 68, HUE 49. Which makes the blacks too black and colors exploded. I used the DVE dvd with the color bars and THX blue filter glasses, and found out that the movie mode was way wrong. The pitcher setting should be at 50% color temp warm. My question is what is your default movie picture settings.
THere is really no noticable difference between a 1080p and 720p. I have both and i cant tell the difference.
im gonna get the W4207, its 720p, but still darn nice and a steal of a deal if you buy it through Dell.
i have this monitor but it has heavy vertical banding on right side westinghouse support didn’t help me
Hello just responding back I have recently got the latest PS3 update and now everything is great through HDMI. So if anyone else has had this problem get the latest PS3 update, it fixes everything.
Hey Disciprine, I just thought I’d give the viewers an update: I have the 42w2, and could never get the PS3 to work on the HDMI input while running at 1080p. However, after Sony released the 1.80 firmware, it works fine. So even with Westy’s 1.00 firware, 1080p on HDMI is fully functional! No need to RMA the set.
I’m definitely a picky videophile. I find flaws that are otherwise invisible to the average viewer. I hhave the blinking PS3 problem as well, but much like adamcbowen1, I opted to use the DVI port for the PS3 and it works great thus far. If the DVI solution for the PS3 were ineffective, then I would get my set RMA’d by Westinghouse.
yes I know that but I live in WA and the only place to get that is in CA the hdmi to dvi 2 seems to be working great.
yeah, if you want to use HDMI with the PS3 you have to get the 1.03 firmware update.
Also what do you think is better for the 360 I have both and I hooked it up via VGA and the blacks looked washed out but said it was in 1080P I thought the only way to get 1080P was from HDMI. Because of the blacks being washed out I went back to component but now my hd dvd for 360 only plays in 1080i.
Nice Tv man I just got the same one. But mine is 1.00 everythings amazing except one problem I had. Playstation 3 through HDMI would flash on and off so I went from HDMI to DVI2 that fixed everything.
banding is random like dead pixels. No firmware will fix banding if you have it. It’s caused by a manufacturing issue. I actually never have much problem with banding, but I’m not as picky as some Videophiles. I do notice the so called banding but only if the screen is all very bright white, which almost never happens.
Zoglog, is that you? I recognize your setup. As for the Westy, I have it and love it as well. My set is great, it just suffers from minor banding that’s not really noticeable unless you’re viewing a grey image, or a camera during a baseball game is panning over the field. I’m using FW 1.00, and don’t have a problem with the PS3 since I use a DVI to HDMI converter. Is your 1.03 set free of banding?
great review
i really need to start saving my money….
Best Buy last July 2006 for about $1499 + tax
I had to take it in personally into thier warehouse to exchange. They also reflash it there. Only an option to those in Socal really though
thanks for the review
How much and where did you buy?
can you update the firmware yourself or do you have to call Westinghouse?
Damn thats a nice tv!
